An even gooder day!

Can I say that?  An even gooder day?   Well, it just was...

Live poinsettia plants inside the mall...
Wanna rent an electric car for your child to get around the mall faster?

We took off  soon after breakfast with Gord and JoAnn and went to ACE Hardware, IKEA, and Festival City Mall.  Festival City has been doing a lot of construction on the waterfront outside the mall - connected to the new canal.  If you remember, a few weeks ago we went on a boat ride down the canal.  The dock for the boat ride is just across the water from the Mall.  I didn't realize that at the time.

Monday night is the grand open of the water front where they will compete with Dubai Mall by putting on a fire, water and light show.  We hope to go!  They don't have a regular published schedule as to how often they will do the show in the future, but I would imagine it would be pretty often.

A cute cafe...

We went through a tunnel that made it look like we were in a kaleidoscope...cool!

From there we navigated our way to the Wafi Mall.  Gord and JoAnn hadn't been there and the Mall is advertising a Christmas Market.  Wafi Mall has a beautiful Egyptian theme as you will see in the pictures.  We went there during Ramadan a couple of years ago.  Unfortunately the Christmas Market  wasn't much, but the Christmas display was pretty amazing.

The tree was 2 stories tall!

We had some lunch in the food court and walked around to see the various sites in the mall.  Didn't even go in any stores.

One hamburger restaurant in the food court was offering complete Christmas dinners - delivered or take out!

The ceiling in one of the many pyramids in the mall...completely redecorated since 2014!

Also enjoyed the main lobby in the Raffles Dubai (hotel) attached to the mall.

The outside of the mall is all decorated with the Egyptian theme as well...

Have you ever seen a parking lot decorated like this?!?

Seriously, this is a parking lot!

Also visited the large upscale indoor Souq associated with the mall.

We were welcomed by camels.

By that time the guys had seen enough of malls and were ready to go back to the house.  JoAnn wanted a nap.  A couple of blocks from the mall was a metro station, so I took off on my own.  The Creek was only a couple of stops away so I went on the Metro to the dhow taxi to the spice Souq...where I wanted to get some saffron.

We had sweet saffron tea in Oman and loved it!  I am NOT a hot drink fan, but for some reason I fell in love with this tea.  I was going to get some at Global Village the other night but it was 2 to 3 times as much as what I got it for at the spice Souq for Aimee.

I got the saffron, enjoyed the dhow taxi over and back across the Creek, and picked up a couple of things to have on hand as gifts.  Hopped back on the Metro and went to the Deira City Center Mall where I got some additional cute Christmas napkins...a camel with a Christmas tree on his back.

Saw this sign by Starbucks at Diera Mall...made me laugh...we have had chilly days but not cold days!

Back on the Metro to the end of the line close to the house, caught a late bus back to West Zone and walked home from there.  7 1/2 miles for the day.  I felt a little tired but refreshed and reenergized.  It is so great to be able to be outside walking and enjoying a breeze here!

It may sound like a busy day and a lot of walking, but for me it was a change of pace and scenery...time with friends and time alone, around people but not interacting, just observing...a good break!
