A little old man entertained us a bit along the way in the sampan. He sang a couple of pretty folk songs, wore a very old staw hat, dressed up in an old fashioned farmer outfit...was a sweet, quiet, shy, but FUNNY guy.
At some point on the tour I talked with an older American woman. She had been on this same little river about 12 years ago...before the dam. She rode in a very small boat and she remembers leaning over the side and pick up some rocks...which she still has. Now the water is a couple hundred feet deep!
Lots of pretty farms high in the mountains...amazing how they can farm on these steep slopes, but it has a very pretty effect with all the landscaping it takes to make it work. The government has planted lots and lots of trees as well. Not many had lived this high before the dam.
We got back on the Yangtze about 1:00 and had lunch while the ship started to cruise. I had a green salad with the works and bow tie noodles with an Italian sauce with ground beef...a touch of home! I have really enjoyed trying all the Chinese dishes but it has been basically the same lunch and dinner every day before this. A real treat! It's the little things in life, right?
Late afternoon we went thru the last of the Gorges...the Qutang Gorge. We were cruising late into the night/early morning to be in position for our outing in the morning at Shibaozhai.
