Greetings from Bahrain on a quick 3 day visa run. Friends picked us up at the airport and we left on a grand adventure! We drove out the King Fahd Causeway...a bridge from Bahrain to Saudi Arabia. The bridge is 16 miles long and 75 feet wide and opened on 12 November 1986.
Our friends had not been out there for quite a while so things had changed. There used to be a viewing tower to see into Saudi. The original one is gone but the new one is not finished yet and there was quite a bit of construction going on. It was still an interesting drive and we did see the passport entrance into The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
These are not my pictures - I found them on the Internet to give you a glimpse of it. We could not stop along the way and could not get a good perspective of it.
The King of the Kingdom of Bahrain opens his magnificent camel farm for people to enjoy. It was a fabulous experience to see them so up close and personal. There was a young man there who was very kind and helpful and thus enhanced our visit. He told us there were 600 camels on the farm. They are not for racing but for milking! They milk them twice a day.
It was a hot day but we hardly noticed we were having so much fun. These camels are contained with a fairly long rope around their leg. They are free to walk around in a limited fashion.
The young man encouraged the children to pet them.
He took us over to a special spot where a two week old camel was sitting with its mother.
The young man insisted on taking our picture with them. Was really quite nice of him. The baby was almost as tall as I am...which isn't saying much!
This group was contained in a pen, but they were quite interested in us. The young man brought us some food to offer to them.
