Each day we went out for lunch at a local restaurant with authentic local foods. Here we are at Zayara Restaurant eating machboos. The gals had chicken and the guys had lamb. The meat was hidden in the pile of rice. Both were quite nicely seasoned and very tasty. We had fresh flatbread and hummus and lots of water. NO WAY we could eat it all however!
Time to go home for naps and homeschooling!
A huge sculpture in the middle of a roundabout near the potteries...
Late afternoon we went to the A'ali village to enjoy the potteries still made in the traditionally fashion - using a mixture of mud and water that is placed on a revolving wheel operated by an artisan.
An old kiln in the background with dozens of banks in the foreground....
An artist at work...happy to have his picture taken. Archeological research substanciated that Bahrain has been famous for the pottery industry since times of old! A special mud from Riffa is used.
In the village there were also many of these old burial grounds. Homes and businesses have been built up around them. Very interesting...
