Another Wonderful Day in Bahrain

A local Mosque in the village where our friends live...

The Maatem where the Arabs from the village meet for a variety of services, meals, celebrations, and times of mourning...a community center of sorts.

We drove out Into the dessert area of Bahrain...which is about half of the land mass of the country.
We saw this camel herd along the road.  There were probably 20 or so under the care of this one man.

Our destination was the Tree Of Life.  There were a few military bases along the water.  There is an American Naval Base in Bahrain as well...according to Wikipedia it is home to U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and United States Fifth Fleet.

Arabic speaking Muslims refer to Jesus as Isa while Arabic speaking Christians refer to Jesus as Yasu.
Interesting that this air base is called Jesus.

Here is the Tree of Life, a lone tree out in the middle of the harsh rocky desert.  I understand this used to be out in the middle of nowhere - now it is built up around the area with buildings and oil fields.

The old tree had twisting turning branches that went high and low.  Was very interesting and the kids enjoyed climbing and exploring.

This guy seemed to be a sort of park ranger, watching out for the old tree.  He was happy to pose for me!

Chicken and mindi rice at a local favorite - Mohammed Noor  Restaurant.  A new experience...plastic covers the table.  You eat with your fingers, using pieces of flatbread as a utensil...no double dipping!

It's a favorite for the kids!  You just put the bones on the table.  At the end of the meal, they wrap up all the leftovers in the plastic and throw it all away!

It was a great tasting meal - but Andy and I could have shared it!  Way too much food!

The table was a jumbled mess by the time we finished...oh so good.
