Walk through town to the Taoist Temple

From the ship we could see the local people doing their laundry along the river.  This time of the year the Yangtze is very pretty and inviting.  We were told that during the rainy season in the summer it turns yellow with all the dirt that washes into the river.  Then it wouldn't seem too inviting to do you laundry!

From the ship we could see the island the temple was on in the distance.

Again we had to walk through the market place filled with eager vendors!
Some enjoyed the challenge of the aggressive bargaining.  I found it a bit stressful!

Our tour group of 21 stopped for picture at the city gate.  Several  had been on many GoAheadTours in the past.  One set of grandparents had their 12 year old grandson with them.
There was one single guy and a mother/daughter, but the rest were couples.  I especially enjoyed two older women, one celebrated her 79th birthday on the cruise.  They lost their husbands at about the same time ~ 14 years ago.  As I understood the story, the husbands traveled for business and preferred their summer homes by the lake to travel with their families.  So, these gals from Fargo, North Dakota, have been traveling together for the past 14 years.  They have been in every state and on all seven continents!  And, they were pretty spunky!

A typical local grocery store...in fact, this is the size of MOST of the small businesses in China.

This is a picture of a picture of the Temple before the dam.  It wasn't an island back then, and the town looked pretty old and tired.  Now that's all under water and it is a pretty little town and quite modern.

The bridge to the island was suspended and not supported so when you walked it bounced up and down...a few were a little freaked out about it...
