Transferring to New Zealand

Wishing we had another day in Sydney to check out some of the sights more. But alas, we were up a 4:45 to leave for the airport to fly on an Emirates 380 airbus to Christchurch New Zealand.  Dailight savings time changed here last night.  Since it is fall here, we got an extra hour of sleep.  Nice!

Flight went well.  Even in economy the seats are large and comfortable.  Had a box lunch from the hotel and a late breakfast on the flight.  The bus driver who picked us up gave us a riding tour around the city - which has had 2 major earthquakes in the last 10 years or so.  It much to see here - the downtown has all of the underground stuff reworked and is just now starting to rebuild.

GoHead Tours has arranged with several families in town to host the tour group for a dinner.  So we were picked up by David and met Katherine when we arrived at their home.  We met their three teenage girls but the didn't eat with us.

We sat in their living room and enjoyed drinks and wonderfully made from scratch appetizers.  She made a tasty warm cheese spread and homemade crackers.  David and Katherine are warm friendly hospitable people.  Both of them grew up on sheep farms ... she in the south and he north of Christchurch.

We had lamb for supper and it was soooo good with roasted potatoes, 2 salads and a very yummy peachplum cake/pie for dessert.  Katherine's hobby is cooking and baking!

Got back to the hotel about 9:45.  What a pleasant evening - easy conversion and good food!
